about the Riding school

Brenda and Don (pictured above) have now been running a riding school for many years.

The school’s emphasis is for people to enjoy horse riding without feeling under pressure to perform at a certain level as is often the case at other establishments. Whilst Brenda enjoys coaching and developing the younger riders to achieve their full potential she recognises that many adults are riding as a hobby or to ‘lose a few pounds’ so she will tailor the lessons accordingly.

Brenda and Don work in unison to assure the smooth running and safety of the riding school. Brenda takes charge of the lessons and is the ‘face’ of Broadbridge Farm Riding School where as Don adopts a slightly ‘behind the scenes’ role ensuring that the horses are all well cared for with the maintenance of the yard being his priority.

Brenda and Don share a great passion for horses and have kept them between them for many years. Along with the horses they also have Ossy and Harry the two German Sheppards and Solee the cat all of which are firm favourites with our regular customers.

Brenda and Dons’ love of horses extends beyond just ‘the business’ especially as many of the horses have been with them for many years. Acorn (pictured above) was one of Brenda’s first ponies prior to the riding school being set up and has remained with her ever since. Acorn joined in the riding school for many years however she is now fully retired she remains on the yard as a ‘pet’ and now just enjoys the finer things in life. Quite often our older riders take Acorn for a walk on a head collar and lead rein to keep her involved.

The various horse riding options within the riding school range from private or group lessons to hacks, summer camp for children and social events. There really is something to suit everyone’s needs no matter what age or ability you are! Our facilities include large outdoor sand school, Cross Country Course, Jumping Paddock and a large network of Bridle paths both on and off the premises for hacking out.

Brenda is affiliated to various different charities and the majority of her Broadbridge Farm riding Club events are in support of these. She regularly organises events in Aid of the Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth. These events can range from a simple gymkhana to carol singing at Christmas! This year she is also going to be supporting Monkey World in Weymouth, having recently adopted a monkey ‘Bryan’!

Although Broadbridge Farm Riding School can be purely a place to take your riding lesson each week everyone has the option to extend their own interest in horses and however new you are to the school are always more than welcome to join in the fun!!
